Blue Hydrangea

Today's card features my favorite flower:
Hydrangea's. I love this stamp and I've tried coloring it with watercolor pencils, tobow markers, Le Plume markers and I've never been satisfied with the results. I wish I had copic markers but I must work with what I have. So today I tried chalk...using a blending pen. I was able to get the different shades of blues and violets that show up on my plants. I completed the coloring and I started to ink the edges of the rectangle it's stamped on and then I messed it up...so I trimmed around the image and glued it to a new rectangle rather than waste my efforts. I will try this technique again and hopefully improve.

I babysat my Grandchildren yesterday so I used my phone camera to take these shots of the memory box I made for Wyatt's birthday. I wrapped it before I remembered I wanted to take pictures for my blog. I save cardboard backing from all the paper and products I purchase so I have it on hand for just this purpose. I used the cardboard from watercolor paper because it was the sturdiest. I used a strong packing tape to connect the sides. I decided to use craft paper and diluted glue to create a paper-mache  type look.

I searched the web for free clipart and created svg files for the cowboy with 2 guns and the cow head and horseshoe. The cowboy boots and running horses were free...from SVGCUTS  I love their files so affordable compared to buying cartridges.

The font used for "WYATT" is called ChockABlock . The lid is attached with double stitched black ribbon using terrificly tacky tape. I used glossy Mod Podge over the entire box to insure that the cuts could not be ripped off by a 5 year old. HEHE.

Last week when I babysat (before the party) I took all the cuts to make a birthday banner. Happy Birthday was cut from white watercolor paper so the kids could choose how they wanted to color it.  I cut extra cowboy hats and horses and stuff so they could glue it on the banner too. I think they enjoyed creating their own decorations for the party and proudly told everyone how they did it.

Mix It Up Monday Challenge Stamp TV

STVMONDB3.
Mix It Up Monday/Challenge Stamp TV...The instructions are to create a striped background for your card. I drew my inspiration from tropical colors, blue and lime green. I think they compliment each other and create a crisp fresh citrus feel.

I used  fine tip and brush tip markers to create this plaid. The stamps are from Gina K's Seeds of kindness collection. Standard circles and Lacey circles from Spellbinders. The ribbon is a satin sensations, the corner photo punch and the butterfly from MS. This was a fun and quick card to put together. I hope it inspires you to make your own unique plaid background paper.

Do you consider yourself and artist? I've been trying that on instead of thinking of myself only as a crafter. What do you think ?

MoJo Monday 204

Todays card is inspired by this MOJO Monday 204 card sketch. Yesterday I spent the day re-organizing my craft space. I don't know about you but when I make die cuts, either on the cricut the cuttlebug or the big shot I usually make more then just the one I want for the current project. Sometimes I even take small pieces of scrap paper and punch shapes and cut dies. So as I was going through my stash of die cuts I came across this adorable pup. I believe I got it from: CarolinaGirl  when I first purchased scale. Cely is so talented and generous she often offers free files for her viewers. So I took this cute little pup and envisioned  him on the sketch.
The denim double sided paper is from kaisercraft.com. I had scraps of the tan suede paper and the "welcome back" sentiment is from an advertised doormat that caught my eye. I thought it was perfect for the pup. I stamped the corner with the paw print.
My dog "Beau" always greets us with a happy tail welcome. Beau came to us when my Mum was too ill to care for him. Her biggest concern was who would care for Beau. She rescued him from a shelter and he was her best friend. At 79 she would get on the floor and romp with him on her hands and knees, tossing a chew bone for him to catch, and she'd giggle like a school girl. I use to think that Mom was over the top... the way she loved this dog. That's all she would talk about.
Beau has been with us for over four years and now I understand why she loved him soo much. He is our faithful friend and dear companion. I believe he is almost 14 years old, a mix between a Jack Russell and a Corgi. He still has a lot of spirit though he often looses his footing and falls. But that doesn't stop him. I never knew I could love a dog so much.
An artist is someone who produces things that people don't need to have but that he - for some reason - thinks it would be a good idea to give them. ~Andy Warhol
